Set for ACL surgery
Moralez has sustained an ACL rupture in his left knee which will require surgery, leaving him out for upcoming months, the club announced Thursday.
Analysis: Moralez ended up facing the worst case scenario following a non-contact injury he picked up during a May 16 game versus Red Bull New York. This issue is likely to mark the end of the season for the veteran, who was tied as the league's second-best contributor of assists with six in 14 matches. At 39, the continuation of his career could also be in doubt following a serious injury, but for now the playmaker will begin to recover from surgery. His place in NYCFC's lineup may be covered by a more defensive-minded Andres Perea in future fixtures.
Leaves with injury in derby
Moralez was forced to exit Saturday's 1-1 draw with Red Bull New York due to a non-contact injury, Tom Bogert of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Moralez could be dealing with a significant issue after being stretchered off in the 39th minute of his 14th MLS appearance of the year. The veteran has been an ever-present member of his team's starting lineup, and his six assists are currently tied for the second most in the league. His creative role would be difficult to replace if he's forced to miss time, but it was a more defensive-minded Andres Perea who operated in the No. 10 slot after the injury.
Effective in loss
Moralez registered 11 crosses (four accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 2-0 defeat against D.C. United.
Analysis: Moralez did what he can to create some attacking power Sunday, completing 11 crosses (four accurate) while winning two tackles and creating two chances against D.C United. He's been involved in 37 percent of the goals scored for NYCFC in leagye play, scoring once along with six assists through 11 appearances.
Another assist
Moralez assisted once to go with two shots (zero on goal) and one corner in Wednesday's 4-4 draw versus FC Cincinnati.
Analysis: Moralez recorded yet another assist for NYCFC for his sixth of the season. He is on pace to break his career high as he currently averages just less than one assist per game, while also creating 26 chances in nine MLS appearances.
