Ruled out for season finale
Comesana has been ruled out of Saturday's season finale against Atletico Madrid due to a calf injury, according to coach Marcelino.
Analysis: Comesana ends what has been a strong individual campaign with four goals, six assists, 53 tackles, 33 interceptions and 62 clearances across 42 appearances (35 starts) in all competitions, having been one of Villarreal's most consistent performers throughout the season. Dani Parejo is expected to get the start in his place, giving the veteran midfielder a fitting farewell appearance in what will be his final game for the Yellow Submarine before departing this summer.
Leaves Saturday with assist
Comesana assisted once to go with three shots (zero on goal) and two chances created in Saturday's 5-1 victory over Levante.
Analysis: Comesana recorded an assist to help contribute to the five goal scoring day on Saturday. He's earned a start in the last 10 La Liga appearances in a row, scoring one with four assists, making 14 tackles with 16 interceptions while also completing 24 clearances.
No longer banned
Comesana's league suspension is over, allowing him to play going forward after missing Thursday's duel versus Oviedo.
Analysis: Comesana will look to resume his solid campaign, challenging Dani Parejo for a central midfield spot in the remaining league matches. The functional man has recorded four goals plus five assists over 37 appearances (31 starts) across all competitions while producing various defensive numbers, with his primary weakness coming from his consistent fouling that makes him prone to yellow cards.
